A person is not eligible for TANF if he or she is an inmate of a public institution or an institution for mental disease. The Social Security Act and the Public Assistance Law require that TANF children and caretakers live in their own homes. 55 Pa. Code § 161.21
A person may receive TANF while temporarily hospitalized in a medical institution. 55 Pa. Code § 161.24(a)(1)
