Buy-In Transaction Codes

The Buy-In transaction code is a four-digit code used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Commonwealth to accrete, delete, or change Buy-In records or to report errors concerning Buy-In individuals.

Each transaction code has a prefix and a suffix. The prefix code tells what the action is, and the suffix code tells why the action was started or tells more about the prefix code.

The transaction codes are used by CMS on the monthly billing file. See Using IEVS, Chapter 10, Exchange #7, Glossary for transaction codes and their meanings. (Using IEVS is available on the Office of Income Maintenance Intranet for internal users.)
