915.3 Reimbursement Responsibilities

The CAO and the OIG share reimbursement responsibilities.

915.31 Reimbursement Responsibilities of the CAO

The CAO will:

• identify reimbursable personal property;

• explain to clients their liability for reimbursement;

• obtain the required signatures on reimbursement forms and other forms necessary for legal action;

• deny or discontinue cash benefits if a client refuses to sign a reimbursement form;

• make referrals to the TPL-Casualty Unit in BFO or to the OIG for collection or other action. See Section 915.6, “Referral to the TPL-Casualty Unit in BFO or to the OIG;”

• furnish the TPL-Casualty Unit in BFO or the OIG with claim information necessary for collection;

• discuss general questions concerning reimbursement policy with the OIG; and

• accept payment of reimbursement claims if the client offers it. See Section 915.7, “Payment on a Reimbursement Claim.”

915.32 Reimbursement Responsibilities of the OIG

The OIG will:

• compute reimbursement claims;

• maintain records of all reimbursement claims;

• collect reimbursement;

• take necessary legal or other action to protect, collect, or settle reimbursement claims;

• furnish the CAO with information necessary for the CAO’s part of the reimbursement procedure, such as information on intercepted Unemployment Compensation (UC) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI);

• furnish the CAO with information necessary to determine eligibility, such as a lump sum settlement or award;

• accept payment of reimbursement claims.
