578.5 Collateral Contacts

A collateral contact is used when documentary evidence is insufficient or cannot be obtained.  The collateral contact may be made in person or by telephone with anyone who can be expected to give reliable information, such as an employer, a neighbor, a landlord, or a community social service agency, etc.   7 CFR ยง 273.2(f)(4)(ii)

The household  should name the collateral contact. The worker will assist if necessary.

If the household fails to name a contact or names one that is not acceptable, the worker will select one for the household.
