The CAO must approve NMP MA for SSI individuals using the following categories:
A—Aged. The individual must be age 65 or older.
M—Blind. The individual’s vision must meet one of the following conditions:
Vision in the better eye is 20/200 or less with the best corrective lens.
The field of vision is 20 degrees or less.
J—Disabled. The individual must be unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity because of a physical or mental problem that:
Can be shown medically.
Is expected to lead to death or has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months in a row.
NOTE: An individual is disabled according to SSI if he or she:
Met the October 1972 definition of disability under the State Aid to Disabled program.
Got Aid to Disabled assistance for December 1973 and at some time before July 1973.
The CAO must use the SSA “Type” code that indicates the aged, blind, or disabled status of the SSI individual to identify the category for approving SSI-related NMP MA.
