CAO staff are not mandatory child abuse reporters, however, CAO employee must give an immediate verbal report to the executive director or the director's designee when they suspect child abuse. The reporter must provide at least the following information:
The name and address of the child
The name of the suspected abuser
The evidence upon which the belief is based
The executive director or the designee are encouraged to call Child Line (800-932-0313) immediately, without determining whether the report is valid. The executive director or the designee must let the reporter know when the call is made and complete a Report of Suspected Child Abuse (CY47).
The CAO must place a summary of the action in the case record. To make sure information is kept confidential, the summary must be removed when anyone other than a CAO employee reviews the record.
