A person is not eligible for TANF if he or she is an inmate of a public institution or an institution for psychiatric disorders. The Social Security Act and the Public Assistance Law require that TANF children and caretakers live in their own homes.
A person may receive TANF while temporarily hospitalized in a medical institution.
