Any money that a student gets from loans, grants, scholarships, or work-study that helps pay the cost of going to school is not counted as income when considering eligibility for TANF/GA related MA. However, any part of the financial assistance that is made available only for basic living needs, such as housing and food, is not excluded.
For MAGI MA, the following educational assistance is excluded:
Scholarships, awards or fellowship grants used for educational purposes and not for living expenses.
Student loans.
Student financial assistance provided under the Bureau of Indian Affairs education programs.
Education, training, housing and subsistence allowances paid through the G.I. Bill.
