The CAO must approve MA for individuals receiving SSI using the following categories:
A—Aged. The individual must be age 65 or older.
M—Blind. The individual’s vision must meet one of the following conditions:
Vision in the better eye is 20/200 or less with the best corrective lens.
The field of vision is 20 degrees or less.
J—Disabled. The individual must have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment that is expected to result in death or has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months.
For a child
The impairment(s) results in marked and severe functional limitations.
For an adult
The impairment(s) results in the individual being unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity
The CAO must use the SSA “Recipient Type” code that indicates the aged, blind, or disabled status of the individual receiving SSI for assistance in identifying the category for approving SSI MA. The SSA “Recipient Type” code is displayed on the SDX Payments tab in the “Recipient Type” field #6. The Recipient Type codes used on the SDX file are:
AI- Aged Individual
AS- Aged Spouse
BI– Blind Individual
BC- Blind Child
BS- Blind Spouse
DC- Disabled Child
DI- Disabled Individual
DS- Disabled Spouse
XF – Ineligible parent/father
XM- Ineligible parent/mother
XP- Ineligible essential person who is not an eligible parent or spouse
XS- Ineligible Spouse
