Subject: Waiver Approval for Case Closings

See OPS060403 Case Closings section. Has the waiver request from the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) been approved to allow CAOs to reinstate a closed food stamp budget during the certification period without a new application if the household reapplies for FS benefits within 60 days of the closing?

A modified approval has been received. FNS limits the reinstatement timeframe to 30 days from the effective date of closing. FNS was concerned that extending the reinstatement timeframe beyond 30 days might lead to payment accuracy problems.

The application process timeframe for new applicants that delay their verification follow-up beyond 30 days but within 60 days of the original application date remains the same as in Food Stamp Handbook Section 504.6.
