managed care organization (MCO)

(same as "health maintenance organization (HMO)") An organization that provides health care for a fixed fee to voluntarily enrolled persons and families. Health services are provided by member physicians with referral to outside specialists. DHS pays the fee for any person who chooses to enroll.
