When a CAO worker suspects child abuse, he or she will immediately tell the Executive Director or delegate. An employee who reports abuse must provide at least the following information:
Name and address of the child.
Name of the suspected abuser.
Evidence on which the belief is based.
The Executive Director or delegate must call Child Line at once, without deciding whether or not the report is true. (See Chapter 338, Medical Assistance Benefits, Appendix K) The Executive Director or appointed employee must let the employee who reported the information know when the call is made and complete a Report of Suspected Child Abuse (CY 47).
A summary of what took place must be entered in the case record. To make sure the information stays confidential, it must be removed if anyone other than a CAO employee looks at the record.
